There is something powerful about men encouraging one another. Just as the early apostles encouraged one another daily, we all need encouragement today.
When we encourage, we point each other to Jesus and remind one another that He has a purpose and a calling on our lives. We step in as brothers in Christ to lift one another up.
Every man of God needs brothers in Christ. If you’re not sure how to serve at your local church, try stepping up to the ministry of encouragement.
Proactive Fellowship
Guys don’t often reach out to one another when we need help. That’s why it’s important to be proactive in gathering together, asking how we can pray for each other, and offering to help when needed.
God has a calling and a purpose for all of us, and we can help others step into the calling that God has for them. We can help each other to see the gifts that God has given us, and encourage one another to use those gifts for the Gospel.
Gathering doesn’t always have to be in a church setting, it could be organizing a breakfast or inviting others for a cup of coffee or a tailgate party. Fellowship begins with someone making an effort to invite others to hang out in person.
Honest Fellowship
Faithful are the wounds of a friend;
profuse are the kisses of an enemy. Proverbs 27:6
We all need friendships that are honest. What’s the point of having a friendship without it? Honesty and accountability come from a fellowship of trust and sharpening one another. Brothers in Christ challenge and strengthen one another. We need brothers whom we can trust to be honest and real with us.
Lead By Serving
Jesus demonstrated a heart of servitude for His disciples whom He called friends. As brothers in Christ, we can have that same heart of Christ by putting one another first, always asking how we can serve. Instead of taking the position of honor and prestige, we ought to take the position of servants for one another. In this way the Church will grow and strengthen as a whole when we learn to make it our mission to serve.
Try This
Ask God to give you the names of 5 people to pray for. In a notepad, write down these 5 names and ask God to show you how you can specifically pray for each person. Commit to praying for these 5 people weekly. Ask God to give you words of encouragement for them for the next time you see them. You’ll be amazed at how much you can encourage someone after praying and asking God to give you words of encouragement for them.
