Poverty and the Bad Eye

The bad eye looks at Egypt. It sees what others have and it wants. It looks back at the toil of slavery and deceives itself into seeing riches. It seeks to strive under the curse rather than to receive the blessings. It doesn’t look for the poor, the orphan, nor the widow. It looks to the wicked rulers for their crumbs.

It invites darkness into the body rather than light. It buries everything in that darkness. It cannot shine on others because it has not light within itself.

A bad eye cannot receive from God because it won’t let in His light. It serves its dark master of mammon. It takes and takes but never gives. It withholds prayer from those who need it. It does not know God’s ways of abundance. It reflects its own darkness back to its own depths of hunger. It is a dark pit, removed from God.

The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
Matthew 6:22
